Raising Awareness of mental health

Midwifery Seminar on Mental Health

Mental Health Wellbeing

Wellbeing can provide a common metric that can help policy makers shape the horizon of mental health services & mental health awareness for future generations.

- As a social work consultant I work with individuals, teams using holistic approach some like to reffer to as a Body Mind and Spirit - raising awareness through training courses , one to one work and group workshops.

Did you know?

...the suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in UK and 75% of all suicides are male.

Feeling suicidal is actually common as long as these feelings dont last for extensive lengths of time or become too intrusive and or overwhelming. employers career

You ask - I answer...

  • Why does it matter what therapist or a coach you see?

  • Finding the right proefesional for you is crucial. Many of the outcomes in deep work and therapy are based on the relationship you build with your therapist or a coach. So here are some things to think about and questions to ask yourself when you're looking for an expert support weather its a therapist or a coach.

  • Coaching and Therapy approach and modality: There are more than 50 types of therapeutic approaches, each with their own merits. What is the goal of my therapy? What problems am I facing right now that I want to work through in this process? Does the coach/therapist integrate various modalities to suit my needs and goals?
  • Specialisation: Practitioners often specialise in certain areas such as trauma, mindset, addictions, pain and mindset, couples and families or depression. Ask - Does the coach/therapist have experience working with people who have struggled with similar problems I am facing?
  • Cultural competence: Cultural backgrounds, values and beliefs play a significant role in therapy How does my religion, ethnicity, sexuality, gender or disability influence my experience in therapy? Does the profesional understand and respect these values?
  • Personal factors: Therapy is a personal journey so don't discount things that are important to you. Do you want to see a therapist face-to-face or online? Do you have a preference for age, gender or ethnicity? Does the therapist have availability that works with your schedule?
  • With various disciplines, our team will work with you to match you with the most suitable practitioner.

Reflecting on Alternative Creative versus Statutory Services

I believe that there is a conditional barrier preventing men from asking for help. Men are expected to be in control, and failure to be seen as such equals feeling to be weak and not sufficiently masculine. I think that if men felt able to ask for and find help when they need it then hundreds of male suicides could be prevented.

I campaign for both female and men, not just the clients of mine.  All of us, at one time or another and regardless of gender, can experience a crisis and so we could all do with support when things get tough, I’m super passionate about spending my energy on preventative interventions so I can support individuals and group of employees before ever reaching moment of crisis. This often presents itself in being unwell and being absent from work which creates more pressure as the employers are still developing and finding appropriate ways of supporting employees who experience mental health difficulties and require holistic wellbeing  approaches rather than having a system in place which allows the employees to thrive and self help and express freely, I call it “Onnes at your workplace “

Over 13 years working with major national organisations and local authorities my research shown me that wellbeing of employees is still something can be improve on and I’m super excited to have worked past 9 months with largest and oldest organisation supporting people with Mental Health needs living in community and to have achieved measurable outcomes for service users but also to have increased measurable Mental Health Wellbeing for the employees who have not be exposed to compassionate leadership in action before and whom expectations were to meet the outcome without putting themselves first in order to serve people more effectively.

Super proud to have recieved positive and meaningful feedback from the employees saying that I have brought kindness, balance, empathy and positive energy to working culture leading to external recognition by local stakeholders including the Mayor who have chosen the organisation to become the Mayor’s annual charity of the year.

However if you would ask me what is the single proudest moment ? it would be the feedback of those people ( approx 150 people ) I have served directly and/or indirectly week in and week out helping identifying new outcomes and personal goals and that I have inspired them to think and act differently.

Mental Health and Coaching

“ Men don’t cry “ ! that’s how we still perceive masculinity within society, so proud of this Men today to see him embracing the vulnerability and authenticity. Breaking down to tears infront of cameras and the Tennis Fans.

Raising awareness of Wellbeing and Mental Health starts from encouraging open honest and authentic conversation and co production engagement and allowing to be “Me” “You” with no fear of judgment. Trusting yourself and living in your Power. 🙏 beatiful Andy
